When somebody has a hard time reading something, I always see them squinting to see it. As someone who wears glasses, I'm sure I do it myself. I was just wondering if squinting actually helps a person's vision and, if it does, why does it help?Does squinting make your vision clearer? If so, why?

When you squint, the contractions of the muscles change the shape of the eyeball and lens which changes your vision temporarily.
Yes, it can. The explanation is rather technical, but simply put as possible, squinting puts pressure on various parts of the eyeball and temporarily improves vision. It can also change the amount of light refracted (sent) into the eye.
In fact, one sign of myopia (nearsightedness; inability to see things farther away) is that vision improves when squinting.
I am myopic. I have 20-100 vision, which means that a line of print (such as on a billboard) that most people can read at 20 feet, I have to be 20 feet away to read. Fortunately, my eyeglasses correct my vision to 20/40.
I'm not sure if it does. Most people squint when they're confused. When you can't read it you get confused.
It does seem to help a bit, though. Just like pulling on the edges of your eyelids (even though it twists a bit) makes some areas easier to see. Squinting isn't good for your eyes, though, and leads to headaches. Sorry I don't know more about it.
I'm severely nearsighted and squinting doesn't really help me all that much. It definitely doesn't help me to see inch high numbers on an alarm clock that's only about six feet away from me when I first wake up in the morning. I have to put my glasses on or move closer to read them.

Why is it that when gently push on my eyes my vision gets clearer and less distorted?
I have had vision problems for the last couple years and it has gotten worse recently. Went to eye dr.s and they gave me glasses and full opthalmologist workup. The glasses don't work and everything has become blurry and sort of double vision/ halos are there all the time. I have found that when I give a little pressure and push on my eyes like on the top where my eyelids are, my vision actually clears up. The strange thing is that it is both eyes that do the same thing and it clears both eyes. I guess it is from pushing on my cornea but I have searched and I am not finding any similar experiences. Lasik surgery ';reshapes'; the lens according to a computer analysis and earlier tests of the eyes. Then the doctor cuts a flap in the cornea to expose the lens, which is then cut according to the computer analysis.

Don't you hate it when you look up at the clear sky and see little squiggly lines in your vision?

Only happens to me when look at the sky after I have been up all night and the sun isn't quite up yet.. but I know exactly what you mean. Doesn't happen much.. I think it is just cool and wierd at the same time. A jumbled bunch of squigglies, like looking into a microscope at something in a science class.

Those are called floaters and everyone has them.
I hate them! I have them right now. I wear contacts so I have them constantly. I can look at anything at anytime of the day and see them. Sometimes I try to follow them to see where they are going and then I can't find them because they go out of my line of vision, I am sure I look like a freak trying to follow them...haha

I just wipe off my glasses when that happens.
But yeah, I think everybody gets that sometimes.
It also means you have healthy eyeballs...

I hate it when I'm in class trying to look in a microscope and I can't tell if something is a cell or a floater in my eye.Don't you hate it when you look up at the clear sky and see little squiggly lines in your vision?

Only happens to me when look at the sky after I have been up all night and the sun isn't quite up yet.. but I know exactly what you mean. Doesn't happen much.. I think it is just cool and wierd at the same time. A jumbled bunch of squigglies, like looking into a microscope at something in a science class.

Those are called floaters and everyone has them.
I hate them! I have them right now. I wear contacts so I have them constantly. I can look at anything at anytime of the day and see them. Sometimes I try to follow them to see where they are going and then I can't find them because they go out of my line of vision, I am sure I look like a freak trying to follow them...haha
Yeah I do. I get that all the time.
I just wipe off my glasses when that happens.
But yeah, I think everybody gets that sometimes.
It also means you have healthy eyeballs...

Am I CRAZY! What are those clear falling things I see in my eyes that only I see?
I heard they're called floaters. It is clear circles I see when looking in a bright light or the sky. The clear circles are connected with a line to it. I got it when I was on computer for 3 hrs straight (most ever) and went right to bed. Then the next morning I saw them in they sky for the first and not only time. Is it a result of being on the computer so much that day and week? How do I get rid of them? Btw, they're clear, not black from detached retina. Please answer these questions

I only say this because it sounds like the floaters are new.
You need to get the exam done right away to make sure your retinas are not damaged in any way.
About 2% cases of new floaters are the result of bad news like retinal tears or holes. You will probably check out fine though.
The only way to ';remove'; floaters is by vitrectomy, and that's a surgical procedure is risky. It can cause lots of eye problems later, like retinal detachment, etc.

The only way to ';remove'; floaters is by vitrectomy, and that's a surgical procedure is risky. It can cause lots of eye problems later, like retinal detachment, etc.
It's not worth doing if you can simply get used to the floaters.What are those clear falling things I see in my vision that only I can see?
I have them too and they started only a few and now it's all i can see even in a darker room.My doctor said it;s gel that leaks from our eye lens as we get older' but i think it's a good idea for you to get your eyes checked asap' as it could be something else also' and better to be safe than sorry..Lots of luck.

visions will come when you let them in hun. dont judge or disbeleive yourself, let it flow without thinking and just observe what you see kinda like a passing thought comes and goes, the more you do this the more you can adjust to it naturally, and hey they have no time up there so it comes and goes alot, just dont try to draw it to you as you will get frustrated. all that info was from experience xxxPsychics- how do you get clear 'visions'?
Visions are a gift from God, not a hobby. But if you do have this gift from God, then you can hone the gift by spending time meditating everyday and getting in higher tune with your Spirit. Learning how to tap into your Spirit self and ignoring the physical self is key.
i am quite lazy and could probably practise more, but then again, try being more zen about it, most of my insights happen when i am most relaxed, i see positive signs everyday through nature, if i start telling myself 'i need to have more ability' then i am telling myself that i'm not happy with what i've got, and there are plenty of people who get nothing atall...Also, its not about being powerful, its about giving something back to the world.

If God gave everyone the gift to have visions, how do you have them at all (not just clear visions)? I don't think that I've ever had a vision.

Had cataract surgery over 2 months now on left eye i still have blurred vision Also had abrasion to clear up s?
My operations atarated 2 months ago. thought i would be able to see better.but no change.Now left eye weeker than right. an abraision was discovered and ha 2 weeks od hell.I never had abraision before dr said surgery went well. I think the abraision was casused by he the surgeon course he would not admitt,Meds got rid of it had been going back once a week then 2 weeks so on. it can take up to 3 months to see the full affect of surgery. your dr has determined that your vision is as corrected as it will get so he prescribed you glasses. the surgery was not guaranteed to provide you will perfect vision.
the abrasion was not your surgeon's fault it is quite common for the cornea to be scratched during surgery. i wouldn't worry about that cuz it is now healed.
i don't know where you live or how far you are willing to travel so i can't recommend another dr. but be sure to get a second opinion if it would make you feel better.

Glimepiride made my vision blurry. How long til it clears?
